. : Biography : .

The presence of Johnny Cash, the voice of Trent Reznor and the heart of Neil Young, Calhoun has distilled all these qualities to fast become an exciting singer/songwriter. Originally from Edinburgh shores, Calhoun is taking his first steps into London's massive pond.

Most known for his remarkable strong vocals and cynical, honest song writing (for which he received a nomination for "Best Acoustic Artist 2006" rblmusic.com) that never shies away from uncomfortable subjects such as alcoholism, domestic abuse, incest, politics and most importantly heartache, Calhoun will bluntly but creatively put a human face to villainous characters and make you care for them regardless of there flaws.

Currently enjoying a come back to the stage after a year hiatus to train as a music teacher, Calhoun has come back with rockier sound, a set list of new tracks and whole lot more.

"Singing 'My World Is Not Brought Down', Calhoun had a great rock voice. A quiet picked opening gave his voice plenty of room and it sounded like Nickelback in delivery and timbre. I’d like to hear Calhoun fronting a full band, especially bearing in mind his vocal pyrotechnics at the close. ...I’d like to hear more from Calhoun."

"Calhoun played next with a couple of songs which dealt with the heavy subjects of incest and domestic abuse. The second song worked better for me. A great intro had me interested from the start and the lyrics had a good storylike quality which kept me interested. I though it was brave of Calhoun to have the narrator as the perpetrator rather than the victim (which he did in both songs) but in the second he quite cleverly gives the victim a voice too (she tells her abuser she's leaving and the only thing he can do for her now is not be around when she comes to pick up her stuff) (note this song was 'The One', Cal). Very strong issues here and, to me, Calhoun has to be admired for tackling such difficult subjects."

"Upon reaching the door I was instantly mesmerized by the acoustic sounds pentrating the thick wooden door. We got cumfy near the front and found a large, friendly lookin' dude was performing first. He played an acoustic guitar and kept a constant sincere smile. I later found that this was Calhoun, the opening act for the acoustic room. Calhoun is an extremely talented solo artist with a quick hand and lyrics which, at one point or another, 'everyone' could relate to (and if you couldn't, you need to get out more man!). Even Shono was heard as saying "the music and lyrics has a sad melancholy sound at times but leaves a large euphoric feeling" I had to agree. Before we knew it the set was finished and we were on to our next act. Time flew there... because we had fun."

Calhoun "...has a voice that mixes Swiss chocolate with a tender pinch of cocaine, spiced up with Californian wines."
